MADK Vol 1 – Yaoi Review

This is not a yaoi manga for just any yaoi fan out there… you can trust me on that one. Now I know I have said this before with titles like The Orc Bride and Feeding Lamb, but trust me this is one title that borders on Ero Guro though some may say it is outright, and if you do not know what that is you can look at my introduction to the genre with my review of Notpia.

Released in English by SuBLime in February of 2021, MADK vol 1 throws you into the deep end of depravity right off the bat with the introduction of the main character of the story Mokoto, a young man who knows he is not normal. Not only does he have a fascination with the occult and hobbies involving the dead and a personal kink that any normal person would find disgusting. To make his greatest of desires come true he decides to summon a demon so that he can fulfil his greatest sexual depravity just once in his lifetime.

What is this young man’s greatest desire? Oh, not much just a mix of cannibalism as well necrophilia. Now I know what you are thinking, disgusting and rightfully so there is a reason why these acts are not just taboo but outright illegal, however, as I have stated countless times before right here on Yaoi Playground fiction gives us a chance to explore the taboo and yes even at times illegal and as long as you are an adult and can tell the difference between fiction and reality and never ever cross that line I see no reason why these subjects can not be safely explored in titles like this. If these themes are too much for you then maybe this is not the title for you, if however, you go into a title like this one with an open mind you might just find beauty in the grotesque and Ryo Suzuri’s artwork is downright gorgeous throughout this title.

So Mokoto gets his greatest desire fulfilled by the mysterious demon J and is prepared to give up both his life and soul to the demon, but something about the young man intrigues the powerful demon and decides against simply taking his soul and decides to take him in to become his own full fledge demon and we the audience also get a peek into the future to find out that yes Mokoto truly can become a powerful being within hell and that this manga series will be exploring his journey there. The first volume works as a brilliant introduction to the world of MADK, heck one could even say it borders on being a horroresque isekai type story, with us seeing the world of Hell through the eyes of Motoko as J trains him into becoming the truly monstrous demon he can be.

Oh, and did I mention how gorgeous the demon J is?

If themes such as monster sex, necrophilia, cannabilism, dubious content, gaslighting and violent sex that includes decapitation is a bit much for you then this is not the title for you. In many contexts, this would be a big no for me, but the fantasy element of immortal demons and hell make these themes a bit more palatable for myself to read. If however this is a little too much for you my reader but you still want something involving monsters to read this spooky season I recommend looking into two other titles I have covered here before.

Monster and the Beast is a slow burn romance between an older gentleman and a gentle monster and if you like your monster loving kinky with lots of consent then you can not go past the amazing Men Plus Monsters by Aero Zero.

Till next time my fellow degenerates!
